The risk in online selling is when you trusted the seller that sells you the product that is in very good condition, then after payment and delivery you saw many defects on the product. Another risk is if the seller doesn't tolerate refund.
You can use facebook fan pages to promote your business. In facebook fan page you can launch any new product and via fan page you can tell people about your product.

Selling on line can be almost risk free... if you do what you say you are going to do.. and be sure that your information and details about the product are correct. I have been selling online for over a decade. Most people just want what you say you are providing. So if you are selling something used and it has a scratch, go out of your way to expain it and show up close picutures of it.

If you are selling new product, be sure you have GOOD PICTURES, not small 100px pictures that nobody can see. Use multiple images too! You also want to be sure you have an overall strategy to your site and a way to collect visitor informaiton (opt in e-mail list).

For credibility, you have to get testimonials. So many people over look this. But creating a good testimonial is almost like a referral.
