It's a swings and roundabouts type thing. You loose PR, but gain
relevance. This assumes the pages you link to are relevant to your
pages content and the anchor text you use is relevant to your pages
content.

Linking to Google for example from a site about shoes with anchor text
"Google Search engine" will help Google, but will not help your pages
SERPs, it will also leak PR and decrease the keyword density for other
phrases so could be said to hurt your pages chances.

So the general rule is link to related pages using anchor text that
helps your pages SERPs. These pages can be owned by you or others.

If you link to stuff that doesn't help your SERPs you could use
rel="nofollow".

So you say any paper with 100 non relevant links is not a paper, it's
garbage?

Sorry John, but even if it had 1000 links it would still be a paper
and so your statement is false.

That's a good use for rel="nofollow" there are plenty of sites that
are trashing another site and in doing so helping them out in the
search engines!!

If you don't feel your link is a vote for that site rel="nofollow" it.

The implied smiley has been used in written history for quite some time,
it's not that hard. If I start a sentence with Uhm... something that might
be funny might follow (or not).

Really? Uhm.......how can that be if smileys were just started in use
approx. 20 years ago for the Usenet I know I use them as a young girl
writing notes to friends, but we still don't know how long in written
history. We have been done this road before.:-) A person would not know if
it was an implied smiley or and implied joke a long time ago if they didn't
know what a smiley was. πŸ™‚

I had a paper linked chain with at least 100 links, it turned out to be
trash as they don't last long. πŸ™‚

Yes. I am not talking about a news paper but a scientific paper. Oh, wait,
you probably never wrote one.

A smiley assigns an emotion to something, hence they are sometimes called
emoticons. If you read a book, and a sentence makes you smile, you can say
that the smiley is implied, since it's not there, but you experience the
emotion (it did make you smile, didn't it). So a smiley is just a visual
clue.

Does it have to be a scientific paper? Can't it be a mathematics paper,
theology paper, etc?

Does writing a chemistry thesis, mythology thesis, history etc in school
count? πŸ™‚

Another wrong assumption, even had one published (studied science at
Uni remember, worked in a lab for a year).

But like Stacey says why does it have to be a scientific paper? You
never stated that in your original post when you said "Uhm, that's not
a paper, that's garbage.", in fact no one specified what type of paper
was under discussion.

BTW I wasn't talking about a news paper, if you want to add scientific
to what I said feel free it's still true. If you add a 3 year olds
hand print to the bottom of a scientific paper it's still a scientific
paper, period. So your statement "Uhm, that's not a paper, that's
garbage" followed by "Is this a true statement? Yes." is false.

You should have clarified what you meant by garbage or not posted
something negative to one of Stacey's posts for the sake of it again,
which is the reality of the situation, you are stalking her posts
again.

The John POLL

Will John-

a. Admit he is wrong as usual.
b. Ignore the argument completely.
c. Twist the meaning of this post to his advantage.
d. Try to cover his wrongness by discussing validation/Usenet/pearl
scripts/anything but SEO (delete those that are no applicable).
e. Do something else (please specify).
