How to Leverage Your Twitter Following to Build Your Email List

If you hang around in the internet marketing world for 5 minutes, you will hear someone say "the money is in the list". In fact, when I got started online, that seemed like ALL I heard. It wasn't long until I realized that I NEEDED to be building a list. After all, every successful marketer that I followed had a list and told me that's where the money is. However, not too many people were talking about the "How To" of building a list. In the rest of this article, I'm going to show you a method that you can use to begin building your list for free faster than you might have ever imagined.

Here is the concept in short. You build up a decent size twitter following if you don't already have one. By decent size, I mean at least 2000. Then you leverage that twitter following to convince a JV partner with an email mailing list in your niche to mail out your offer to their list. This is the basic concept of email swap, but because you will be using your twitter following, you are not limited because you don't already have an email list. Here's what you do...

Step one: build up your twitter following.

If you don't already have a decent size twitter following, then you will need to start here. After you sign up for your free account and have a picture uploaded, you will need to pick out 5-10 industry leaders in your niche. For instance, if you were in the guitar teaching niche, then you would pick out the top guitar teachers. Then you follow the people that are following them. Start off about 100 per day then move up to about 200 per day. When you do this, many of these people will follow you back when they see that you are talking about guitar stuff too. You should be up to 2000 targeted twitter followers in a matter of days.

Step two: find a swap partner.

The next step is to find someone else that is building an email list of people in your niche. You can find these people on related forums or chat rooms. You then approach them with your joint venture proposal. If you have 2000 people on twitter, you will be looking for someone who has a list of 50-500 people on their email list. Your proposal is simple. They will email their list of prospects promoting your squeeze page, and in exchange, you will send out 3-5 tweets per day for 5-7 days promoting their squeeze page. Because you have at 4 times as many followers, they will probably be open for this type of trade, and it is a great way to build your own email list.
