A well built and designed website with your own domain name serves as the focal point of your business or idea. The act of blogging and social marketing should serve to direct Internet traffic to that website. This is how millionaires are made and people get discovered!
Don't be overly discouraged with the thought of building or designing your own website! In fact you should look forward to it. The entire process is actually quite intoxicating. The worst thing you could do is pay somebody to do it for you especially if you are a small business or individual.
It's important that you take part in the design and building of your website and if your schedule allows I recommend doing the whole thing yourself. You will always work harder at making something successful if you created it. I built my website personally in about 5 hours. Keep in mind I'm only discussing the infrastructure at this point in time.
Once your website is built you will always need to keep up with it and test it on a regular basis. The most important thing you can do at first is get the right web hosting company. There are many free web hosting companies on the Internet but some of them lack in the proper tools and customer service department. Keep that in mind. Do your research! Great tools and good customer service are what determines if building your own personal site will be a pleasure or a disaster.
After you pick the right web hosting company for you then it's merely a lot of copy and paste. Of course you have to write some text and download and install some pictures but for the most part the act of actually designing is not that difficult. Anybody who knows how to read and follow directions can get their own quality website.
The best advice to give you at this point is to not publish too soon! Some people get excited and all they want to do is publish. There are vital things things that must be done to optimize it during and afterward to keep you from having to do lots of extra work or possibly have to rebuild the whole thing later on. In addition, there are many other very important tasks you need to perform and understand such as making your website visible in other browsers and SEO techniques to drive traffic to your website. Your domain name should have keywords in it related to your business or website content.
The first thing people realize when they get their own website is that the concept of "if I build it they will come" does not apply to websites. So when people ask me "how can I get my own website", I just say getting and building the site is easy. It's what comes next that will make the difference between a website sitting in no man's land and one that flourishes into a full fledged business with tons of happy visitors!

SEO techniques is where you should start. Everything will branch out from there. If your site isn't designed to rank with in Google your a million miles behind.

This is why I like yahoo web hosting. Comes with a site builder (pretty easy to use), and the web hosting control panel is very nice.

It is based on a model, so you do not need to know or learn to code and is very cheap. Remember that you get what you pay for with free website building of another person, all the ads on your site. Office Live Small Business is a free ad. It is also compatible with Google AdSense and has capabilities for electronic commerce.

Possibly the easiest way to create your own website is to use an online site creation tool. The first thing you need to make this decision for the domain name. What is a special place on the Internet, will be called? You will find a name that is unique to you and that is available. If you do a quick search you will find that there are many places to get a domain name. You can purchase a name for about $ 1.00 per month! There is no need to pay more than that.
