there are different opinions about is SEO really the future of getting traffic or not. for the next 5 years it absolutely is.

but i would like to point another thing, and that is choosing bad or wrong website for your business. people are not aware that bad site turns visitors away and by that they loose potential clients money. What i mean by bad and unprofessional websites: using free hosting (with very slow loading), using free domain name (or free subdomain like something.webs.com), using free design template that are used on many other websites, having backlink to free web builder or template directory.

And why is having an unprofessional site wrong? Because there are many other web spots on Internet that target the same audience. An average user will buy product or service on some decent web site rather on site that has free domain, free website, free hosting etc. After all, would you give money to somebody who didn't invest a single dollar?

If you won't invest at least few bucks and buy commercial domain (best choice is .com) do not expect to get too many clients from your website. Maybe some internet gurus may, but 95% of small businesses will not profit 1$ from their unprofessional website. Be sure in that.

Very good point you have, "if i build it they will come". Definitely does not apply to websites. The key to a successful web presence is planning ahead, and creating your complete website before posting. And also very important to have a plan for keeping the website up to date. Forget the "website under construction" page, get your website planned thoroughly, designed well, and functioning beautifully before publishing. Then promote the site as hard as you can and avoid spamming people with your links.
