Re: How accessibility affect web designing

When planning a website you need to be aware that the design decisions you make at the start can have a huge impact on how your site is viewed and indexed by search engines.

For example, Flash, while it's a great choice to showcase a product or service, should not be overused. The problem with Flash is that any keyword-rich content contained within the generated .swf files is not visible to web robots crawling your site (there have been some advancements in recent months to address this issue, nevertheless, the problem persists). Additionally, by designing a site in Flash you are excluding the growing number of visitors who own an iPad and iPhone. Neither supports it.

The same advice re accessibility applies to website menus built with images. Once again, it is text, and not images, that is indexable. So your keyword-rich menu items are invisible to Google and Co. Sure, you may have to sacrifice that fancy font you'd planned for your image-based menu, but in order for your site to be accessible, you're better off opting for a text-based version which can be prettied up using CSS (Cascading Style Sheets).

If you can't be dissuaded from using images for your navigation, at the very least make sure you include an 'Alt' or 'Title' tag to give each image a meaningful keyword targeted description. These provide some, but not much, search engine fodder.

Hope this info assists.
Cheers
