For those who are just beginning in this field, what is mentioned above is NOT true. There are NO easy way to promote your site (what ever kind of link it would be). 1st stop, Page Rank is not something that will say about your site anymore. A site with a PR 6 may still rank lowest in the SE as it is not a factor in SERP anymore. Secondly, a site with a PR 6 homepage wouldn't mean that the page where you can link has the same PR 6. If a site has that much PR, chances of it linking your site in their page is LOW - unless you offer something really awesome. 2nd, it may work but there are still a lot of factors to consider. is the page where the catchphrase will be added getting crawled by SE or visited by people? will the owner allow me to add a link in that page going to my site.

What about text link advertising? Has anyone had any experience with this and what are the conversion rates? I am thinking about companies like Kontera. Is there any value in running text link advertising campaigns?
