Re: Difference between Google Bomb and Google Dance

Hi

The two words, Google Bomb and Google Dance are unrelated, except for that they each involve Google and can cause problems for people.

1. The Google Dance is the ongoing shifts in Google's algorithm. Each time the algorithm is updated, different sectors of the search results are affected and when rankings drop, the sad song is sung by those hit by the Google Dance. It's an algorithm shift. One's rankings can also improve during such shifts, but usually people talk about it because they are affected negatively.

2. A Google Bomb is a massive linking campaign orchestrated by others who use Google's Page Rank technology to manipulate search engine rankings. It usually involves maligning another's name, website or business by associating them, through link anchor text, with unappealing subjects or objects.

Google Bomb's are destructive, despite the fact that some think they can be humorous. We have written a 10 year history about the Google Bomb here: http://blog.sitesell.com/sitesell/2011/06/the-history-of-the-googlebomb-and-googles-reponse-to-it-part-1-of-3.html

Re: Difference between Google Bomb and Google Dance

They are two so different things but can be related. Google bomb is a technique that people do (also called googlewashing) to have high rankings for their websites in searches or keywords that is not related to their niche. Google dance is the term people use to describe fluctuations in the SERP. usually happens during major algo changes.

Re: Difference between Google Bomb and Google Dance

The name "Google Dance" is often used to describe the index update of the Google search engine. Google's index update occurs on average once per month. It can be identified by significant movement in search results and especially by Google's cache of all indexed pages reflecting the status of Google's last spidering.
