Here are some of my tips:
use alternative/disposable email ad in sites you are unsure of
watch out for checkboxes allowing a site to send you news when signing up
if there is an option to not show your email ad, do it.
use disposable email in your site
cheat spam spiders. use name_email_com instead of the real one. people will get it but spiders wont
Read Terms & Conditions pages
Do not use auto-responders
report spam

Here are common sense ways to avoid spam that are forgotten or overlooked far more often than we'd like to believe.
Use a spam filter.
Don't broadcast your email address.
Use different emails accounts.
Embrace the CAPTCHA.
Catch a spider.
