The Advantages and disadvantages of Email marketing

Advantages of Email marketing

In my experience, the main advantages of Email marketing are:

1. Relatively low cost of fulfilment. The physical costs of email are substantially less than direct mail.
2. Direct response medium encourages immediate action. Email marketing encourages clickthrough to a website where the offer can be redeemed immediately this increases the likelihood of an immediate, impulsive response.
3. Faster campaign deployment. Lead times for producing creative and the whole campaign lifecycle tends to be shorter than traditional media.
4. Ease of personalisation. It is easier and cheaper to personalise email than for physical media and also than for a website.
5. Options for testing. It is relatively easy and cost effective to test different email creative and messaging.
6. Integration. Through combining email marketing with other direct media which can be personalised such as direct mail, mobile messaging or web personalisation, campaign response can be increased as the message is reinforced by different media.

Disadvantages of Email Marketing

In my experience, the main disadvantages of Email marketing evident are:

1. Deliverability. Difficulty of getting messages delivered through different internet service providers (ISPs), corporate firewalls and webmail systems.
2. Renderability. Difficulty of displaying the creative as intended within the in-box of different email reading systems.
3. Email response decay. Email recipients are most responsive when they first subscribe to an email. It is difficult to keep them engaged.
4. Communications preferences. Recipients will have different preferences for email offers, content and frequency which affect engagement and response. These have to be managed through communications preferences.
5. Resource intensive. Although email offers great opportunities for targeting, personalisation and more frequent communications, additional people and technology resources are required to deliver these.

Re: The Advantages and disadvantages of Email marketing

Hello Friends,
advantage to email marketing is that the cost associated to it is minimal. Hence, it is within the means of everybody. There are many key reasons which make the email marketing cost-effective. It has the ability to distribute information to a wide range of specific, potential customers at a pretty low cost. As you will be enclosing a list of an email recipients, so there will be no cost connected with taking a list of an email addresses. Moreover, the cost of dispatching the emails is negligible. Furthermore, E-mail, in terms of sending and responses, is more immediate in comparative to traditional mailing. Whenever you are going to convey your message, you will be able to get the prompt response without any stretch of time.
disadvantage to email marketing is the possibility of having your email marketing viewed as a spam which is a matter of concern and thus, should be taken into a consideration because it could prove to be somewhat pricey in terms of the profit margin of your business. Every time, now and there, Internet users are flooded with an unsolicited, junk emails serving as an advertisements which often demand expensive professionals to write, design and implement the project so as to amplify the possibility of your success.

Re: The Advantages and disadvantages of Email marketing

Another major advantage to email marketing is it is extremely affordable. This is significant because there are many other types of marketing, including Internet marketing, which are significantly more expensive than email marketing. The costs associated with email marketing are minimal. Ideally you will already have a list of email recipients who are interested in your products and services so there is no cost associated with obtaining a list of email addresses. Additionally the cost to send out emails is minimal and can be considered part of your regular operating costs. All of these factors already make email marketing extremely cost effective.
However, there is some cost involved in email marketing. Primarily this is the costs associated with writing the advertisements and creating any graphics which will accompany the email advertisements. This will require hiring a writer to write the copy for the advertisement and a designer to create and implements the graphics. The cost of these services will vary pretty widely but in general you will pay more for writers and designers with more experience. This is because these writers and designers are expected to be able to produce a higher quality of work than those with less experience could produce.

Re: The Advantages and disadvantages of Email marketing

Email marketing is quickly becoming one of the most popular forms of Internet advertising. This is because there are many distinct advantages to the concept of email marketing. However, email marketing does have some disadvantages as well. In this article we will examine the advantages and disadvantages of email marketing and will also provide some insight into how to plan and execute an effective email marketing campaign.

Email marketing certainly has a set of unique advantages over other types of marketing both online and offline. Perhaps one of the most significant advantages to email marketing is the ability to reach a worldwide audience with minimal effort. It is certainly possible to reach a worldwide audience with other types of advertising but traditional types of advertising such as television, radio and the print media are not nearly as effective for reaching potential customers around the world all at once.

Re: The Advantages and disadvantages of Email marketing

E-mail marketing (on the Internet) is popular with companies because:

* Compared to other media investments such as direct mail or printed newsletters, it is less expensive.

* Return on investment has proven to be high when done properly.

* It is instant, as opposed to a mailed advertisement, an e-mail arrives in a few seconds or minutes.

* It lets the advertiser "push" the message to its audience, as opposed to a website that waits for customers to come in.

* It is easy to track. An advertiser can track users via web bugs, bounce messages, un-subscribes, read-receipts, click-throughs, etc. These can be used to measure open rates, positive or negative responses, corrolate sales with marketing.

* Advertisers can reach substantial numbers of e-mail subscribers who have opted in (consented) to receive e-mail communications on subjects of interest to them

* When most people switch on their computer the first thing they do is check their e-mail.

* Specific types of interaction with messages can trigger other messages to be automatically delivered.

Many companies use e-mail marketing to communicate with existing customers, but many other companies send unsolicited bulk e-mail, also known as spam.

Illicit e-mail marketing antedates legitimate e-mail marketing, since on the early Internet (see Arpanet) it was not permitted to use the medium for commercial purposes. As a result, marketers attempting to establish themselves as legitimate businesses in e-mail marketing have had an uphill battle, hampered also by criminal spam operations billing themselves as legitimate.

It is frequently difficult for observers to distinguish between legitimate and spam e-mail marketing. First off, spammers attempt to represent themselves as legitimate operators, obfuscating the issue. Second, direct-marketing political groups such as the U.S. Direct Marketing Association (DMA) have pressured legislatures to legalize activities which many Internet operators consider to be spamming, such as the sending of "opt-out" unsolicited commercial e-mail. Third, the sheer volume of spam e-mail has led some users to mistake legitimate commercial e-mail (for instance, a mailing list to which the user subscribed) for spam — especially when the two have a similar appearance, as when messages include HTML and flashy graphics.

Due to the volume of spam e-mail on the Internet, spam filters are essential to most users. Some marketers report that legitimate commercial e-mails frequently get caught by filters, and hidden; however, it is somewhat less common for e-mail users to complain that spam filters block legitimate mail.

Companies considering an e-mail marketing program must make sure that their program does not violate spam laws such as the United States' CAN-SPAM Act, the European Privacy & Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 or their Internet provider's acceptable use policy. Even if a company follows the law, if Internet mail administrators find that it is sending spam it is likely to be listed in blacklists such as SPEWS.

Re: The Advantages and disadvantages of Email marketing

Hello everyone,

Advantages of Email marketing

# Marketing using e mail is a great way to advertise your business and communicate with your customers.

# Email marketing has a good response rate from 5% to 35% this depends on the type of industry, how it is formatted and how it is operated. These response rates are very good compared to other direct marketing methods.

# When your customer subscribes to your email list, the information you can gather about their wants and interests, is important when you are considering on what products you want to offer them.

# It is quick and efficient unlike the conventional marketing like direct mail, which can take up time to construct and implement.

# Informational products such as ebooks can be down loaded immediately when you submit the information asked for.

Disadvantages of Email marketing

# Spam is a big problem, but thanks to anti - spam programs and email servers, emails can be filtered and sent to a spam folder.

# Your email marketing messages have to be short, quick and to the point you should not try to describe your product in great detail. This tends to curb creativity, but you can put your creativity and advertising expertise to good use in your website.

# Some small businesses do not realize the power of email marketing therefore do not use it to its full extent, and miss out on a lot of good business opportunities.
