Hi Mosqwik, welcome to the forum. The best way you can start is to look at businesses for sale. You can get an idea of their business model and see if it would appeal to you. You will also get an idea of what type of money the business can generate. Then you can decide if you want to build it from scratch or buy an existing business. Good luck.

I would also suggest you look at the Dept of Labor site, they can give you an idea of the growth rates for the various industries and then you can look at the financial statistics on the IRS site to determine the profitability.

Congratulations on deciding to start your own business! You've got a long road ahead of you indeed, however, you're on the right track by looking for help on these types of forums. The only thing I can suggest is just to read (**Correction: DEVOUR) as much as you can about having your own business. There is tons of info out there as well as all the resources you need. Also, they post new articles (in all the categories) on a regular basis too so remember to check back.

I just posted to another colleague that I found a totally rockin free article a few weeks ago at Business Start Up - Start Your Own Business that helps individuals to start and operate a business. I was really impressed with the great references and links in the 60 some page ebook. I couldn't believe it when I came across it in my search engine. Really, really, really good stuff.

Hey Bizfortune, that's that same site I listed too. I think Innoventum's pdf on starting a business is getting a lot of good press. I really liked it as well -- very well thought through and it was free -- loved that. I've been recommending it to all my entrepreneurial friends and colleagues.

You came to the right Forum because you can find a lot of people that
can help you with their small business experience. A possible idea for starting a small business could be to start with Affilliate Marketing. I do this on my Home Business Lifestyle Blogspot and a few other 'Theme specific' Blogspots. On those blogspots I write about topics that those 'Niche Markets' like to read about while pre-selling Affilliate products.

Besides the Home Business Lifestyle I also write about the Travel Lifestyle and the Writing Lifestyle with interesting info about how you can make money with both Traveling and Writing.
