Public speaking is a great, inexpensive way to market. I wouldn't way it's new, but most small business owners don't think to do it unless they're working with a marketing coach/consultant and they suggest they try it.

With public speaking, you'll make your money from fee's and product sales from folks that see you speak. You don't have to push or be salesly when you talk, but sound intelligent and educate your audience on something that's important to them.
