I haven't that much knowledge about this.. but i think.. footer link and also the the link exchange which is done in SEO ..both are important... Footer linkis displays on all the pages of the website.. and the other types of links have their own page. which is called link page...

Text links are much better than banner links because with banner links you can't have any anchor text. As far as where the text link is I don't think it matters. However, it may make a difference how many links are on the page.
