How to build your backlinks count

The whole idea of link exchange research and came up with a 3-step process that involves an analysis of 3 pages of the web site we need to exchange links with. The 3 pages are:

* the home
* the directory page: this is the page that contains a list of categories that the site has put together in a bid to arrange its link exchanges.
* the backlink page: this is the page that will contain our backlink.

One way is to obtain the Google toolbar and visit the web site to see its PR. Another way is to use one of the many web sites on the Internet that enables us to find the PR of any web site. And still another way is to appear for software that will tell you the PR of any web site.

Although you will commonly need to look at these 4 things together in a sort of table in order to decide whether the target site passes the first step or not, there are definite results that would cause me to decide straight away not to exchange links with a site:

* if the PR of the site is zero,
* if the site is not scheduled in the Google index,
* if the site does not have any pages indexed by Google.

Re: How to build your backlinks count

According to Leslie Rohde of the SEOBrainTrust.com, a reciprical link or swapping links with another website is out dated and a waste of time.

The concept dates back many years in SEO (Search Engine Optimization) based on Google ranking you higher if you had more links pointing back to your website.
This is also the time prior to blogs and social media and it wasn't possible to leave a comment on someones website without going through the webmaster.

The process of emailing a webmaster, requesting a link placed on their site in exchange for a link on your site could span over a few days for the emails to
be replied by both parties and chewing up close to 30-60 minutes of your time. That also assuming you get a response back from the other website owner.

I've seen the practice still used on business directories when you list your business details.
I personally skip over these sites as they are so out of date I don't want to waste my time swapping links.
It's actually cheaper to pay $5-10 for the link than waste your time with the link swap.

1 ways links back to your website is the objective of building links.

You don't see Microsoft, Adobe, Apple request a link back to their site because it doesn't matter.

The internet changes at a rapid pace, make sure you are learning form material that is less than 1 year old.
Otherwise you run the risk of wasting your time on out dates tactics that no longer work.
