Advertising Tips for Small Businesses in Nigeria

Advertising works! This is one of the slogans of the big corporations or big companies that have a lot of budget for their products and services.
However, if you own a small business and have a website for it and you are low on finance, there are free ways to get exposure for your business websites.
Today, I’m going to give you some ideas on how you can send targeted traffic to your website. I have personally used these ideas and I saw a serious boost in the amount of website visitors to my online businesses.

1. Use Social Networks
In recent times, social networks is growing and is receiving more visitors than most of the paid and usual advertising medium. One among the popular social media is Facebook.
If you do a little research on Alexa.com, you will find out that Facebook is the number one most visited website in Nigeria. It is the same in so many other countries around the world. Second to it, Yahoo.com and Google.com coming in the third place.
To advertise for free, go to facebook, and create a group, customize your profile with your business website link, start inviting friends. There is also provision in facebook to help you actually build an email list of all the people interested in your business. This subscribers will start receiving follow ups from your autoresponder with follow ups on your products and services till a sale is closed.

2. Use Yahoo Answers
If you want to get a lot of targeted website visitors interested in your services and products, there are certain questions people interested in your products type online. What you do is find out these questions, make research and sign up with Yahoo Answers, make a detailed reply to as many questions as possible and post on Yahoo Answers.
In your answer, let the link to your website be where people are directed to get more information to satisfy their curiosity. That way, you will continue to get targeted website visitors from people interest in your products for free and most likely you will be able to convert many into customers.

3. Use Highly Trafficked Forums
Another free but powerful way to advertise your website is through the use of Forums. Search for Forums where people who need the products or services you offer meet. You can easily do that by doing a keyword search on Google.com.
When I talk about using Forum marketing, I’m not talking about it the way Internet marketers use it. You will need a little twist to get people to visit your small business website.
Here’s what you need to do. Search for the threads where many people are asking questions relating to your market. If you don’t know the answer, do a thorough research, and come back to that forum and post your findings. Be as detailed as possible. Leave the link to your signature to be your small business website.
As more and more people ask similar questions, they will see the answers you have provided and other forum users will direct new members to your post. If you can do this every week on at least 5 similar forums, you will continue to get regular website visitors.

4. Use Blog Commenting
There are blogs everywhere online and in many niche markets. Locate a blog in your market that have a high ranking and offer to be a guest writer. The truth is most blog owners who receive a lot of traffic to their blogs run out of ideas for articles.
But when guest writers like you approach them, they are likely to accept a guest post. Each time you make a post giving a valuable article, your objective is to get website visitors. You can do that by writing a little article bio at the end of your guest article.
Your readers will seek you out and you will immediately gain the same importance that the popular blog owner has as you will be associated to operate on the same level and hence more people will easily subscribe to your services.

5. Be A Guest Writer In Offline Newspapers
One of the most powerful ways to get a huge patronage for free through articles is to offer to be a Guest writer in your chosen niche. The truth is the Newspaper companies always are looking for fresh content each day and when they get a request for a weekly feature article writer, most will say yes.
Now let me tell you a little secret, people pay as much as N150,000 for a full paged advert and most people or companies who don’t know how to write effective adverts hardly break even.
Whereas, if you feature an article that people need in your market, it will be given more attention than an advert that tries to sell without adding any value. An article with your little Bio at the end which have a link to your website gets more subscription because people believe that anyone who gives free information is simply an expert.
