I read a recent WSJ 02/12/08 article that listed some of the top 25 money making franchises - some of these names were surprising:

-Arthur Murray Dance Studio
-Denny's
-Friendly's
-The Melting Pot
-Nathan's Famous
-Ponderosa Steakhouse
-Servpro
-Sterling Optical
-Stanley Steemer

Re: WSJ Article

What about online franchises? They really cut your overhead costs down
when you run them from your home or office.

I have not seen an online franchise that was something other than a local offering of the same type of product ie. local tourist sites linked together, I am not sure you get much synergies or that an advertising model it where the real money is. If there are some decent franchises online I would be interested in finding out more about them.
