What are some of the things you should be looking for when evaluating a franchise - we are considering buying a pizza franchise and there are so many of them - how do you decide?

Re: What to look for?

Here are some things I think you should consider:

-Consider following your passion you will always be happy - you could make money with a subshop but will you be passionate about it?
-Review several UFOCs and franchise brokers sites regarding their growth
-Look at the competition in the area

Re: What to look for?

The most important thing you can do is to talk to existing franchises they can give you unfiltered feedback. The other thing you should look at is the growth of the firm if they are growing too fast that could bad because of drained resources on the other hand growing too slow is another indication. You want to find a good balance if they have a healthy growth rate they are doing something right.

I would look at the franchisors financials, they can tell you how healthy the company is and how they are growing. If the franchisor is doing well than the franchisees are doing well.

Re: What to look for?

Here are a few question you may want to ask:

-What type of support do they provide in the site selection?
-What is the biggest reason why some of the franchises fail (UFOC document will tell you this)
-What type of support do they provide for the grand opening
-Do they have financing, health care, retirement programs
-How are they different from other pizza franchises
