Re: What Are the Benefits of Setting Goals?

First, by having clear goals, people know what they are striving to achieve.
Second, the sense of purpose is very important in accomplishing goals. Thus, people are much more motivated to achieve each of their goals if they have a reason to achieve those goals.
Third, by assigning goals, people are given personal responsibility for achieving those goals. Therefore, support for achieving goals increases when they are assigned.
Fourth, by having detailed goal plans, people increase both their productivity and performance. This is because outlining each step that is necessary to achieve a goal is critical to starting and executing goal plans.
Next, people have more confidence when they are noticeably making progress on their goals. And this is only possible when goals have detailed plans that are tracked to completion.
Finally, people are must more satisfied with themselves when they actually finish accomplishing their goals. This comes from the satisfaction of doing a well done job to the very end of the project, as well as the recognition in achieving those goals.

Re: What Are the Benefits of Setting Goals?

Hi
First of all your goals should be realistic. You should have short term goals and long term goals. Your goals should be written down on paper and posted where you can see them everyday. Your goals will encounter obstacles, do not let that deter you from achieving them. Once you have established your goals you will need a g**e plan on how to achieve those goals, and it usually requires that you continue your education. I am 44, and after 24 years in the military, I am back in college working on my BA. My goals have changed due to the fact that I have 3 kids to send to college in the future and that is my main goal.
Thanks

Re: What Are the Benefits of Setting Goals?

1)Focus:If you have a goal it gives you focus something to aim for, a target or dream to work to.
2)Motivation:Achieving or making progress towards a goal can be hugely motivating. Imagine for example you want to improve your fitness. When you start you can only exercise on the treadmill for a short period of time at a relatively slow speed. Pretty quickly you can comfortably run for 15 minutes at a reasonable speed. It's a great feeling when you reach and then pass a previous best.
4)Success:If you set yourself a goal you are more likely to succeed. Once you set an idea in your mind that you are going to do something, there is likely to be a much greater chance of success. Why? The reason is that you will go the extra mile to achieve it.
5)Confidence:If you start setting and achieving goals your confidence will rise. I use myself as an example. I left school at 16 with basic qualifications. I started an Accountancy Diploma at night school. Each time I passed a set of exams it gave me the confidence to tackle the next level. Eventually I qualified as a Chartered Management Accountant.
6)Growth:Every time we set a goal we grow as a person. The reason for this is that we are probably going to have to develop or learn about something to achieve it. Setting up my web-site is a good example. I would describe myself as IT competent. Despite this I purchased a website builder, had a go, got some feedback and asked for help when stuck. The learning and growth from doing what might appear as a simple task was huge.

Have a nice day

Re: What Are the Benefits of Setting Goals?

Setting goals, and writing them down, is like creating an actual working plan for your future. But you shouldn't just write your goals down. Write a step by step process of how you can achieve them. Seeing that is is actually possible helps you stick with them. It motivates you to go forward with your plans.
