Some Important Tips for Successful Business Networking

Hi

Effective business networking is the linking together of individuals who, through trust and relationship building, become walking, talking advertisements for one another.

1. Keep in mind that networking is about being genuine and authentic, building trust and relationships, and seeing how you can help others.

2. Ask yourself what your goals are in participating in networking meetings so that you will pick groups that will help you get what you are looking for. Some meetings are based more on learning, making contacts, and/or volunteering rather than on strictly making business connections.

3. Visit as many groups as possible that spark your interest. Notice the tone and attitude of the group. Do the people sound supportive of one another? Does the leadership appear competent? Many groups will allow you to visit two times before joining.

4. Hold volunteer positions in organizations. This is a great way to stay visible and give back to groups that have helped you.

5. Ask open-ended questions in networking conversations. This means questions that ask who, what, where, when, and how as opposed to those that can be answered with a simple yes or no. This form of questioning opens up the discussion and shows listeners that you are interested in them.

Keep sharing and reading
Thanks

Re: Some Important Tips for Successful Business Networking

This is significant for a number of reasons.
1. It is clear that these leading companies can see the benefit of striking strategic alliances to help grow the business
2. Alliance networking can expand the business across the globe quickly and in a more economical way than through pure organic growth
3. Networks also help to build realistic local pricing levels

But when it comes to networking on a smaller scale, what is the best approach?
How do you ensure that you are linking up with the best partner?

It is clear in any small business that you have to spread your sphere of influence as wide as possible and the internet is the perfect platform to achieve this. Social marketing is one of the cheapest and fastest ways to advertise your business to a network. Twitter, Facebook and MySpace may well give you exposure but dedicated business networking sites such as Linked-in or Biznik will connect you to many like minded global individuals operating in the same space as you.

Business people all over the world are just like you. They are always looking for ways to earn money quickly and cheaply and online social networking has made this a far more practical strategy, even in a scenario where money making opportunities such as free money offer additional sources of income.

Re: Some Important Tips for Successful Business Networking

Hello,

1. Choose Events Wisely: Attend events where there will be business owners or decision-makers to buy your product or service. Don't waste time attending all events as there will be a lot of events where people are just not suitable to purchase from you.

2. Talk to Strangers: Walk up to people that you do not know and introduce yourself. Introduce yourself with a firm handshake, look them in the eyes and say your name and company name. After they introduce themselves, ask them questions about their business, such as "How did you get started in that business?" and "What do you like best about your business?"

Make the conversation all about them and not you. People love to talk about themselves. If you allow them to talk about themselves, you will be remembered as someone who took the time to get to know them. Remember, networking is not about the quantity of business cards with which you come home. It's about relationships.

3. Follow-up: When you get back to your office, send a follow-up email, "snail" mail a handwritten note, or call to make an appointment. The follow-ups should be short notes to remind them of where you met, wish them success in their business, and remind them of what you do. I like to also invite them to other networking events so you are offering them value and not just trying to get them to buy from you.

4. Face-to-Face Again: If you have made an appointment, congratulate yourself. You did a great job in convincing them that you offer value. At the meeting, remember to talk about them and ask more in-depth questions about their business. Find out how you can help them by listening to their concerns. After you have listened and you think you know how to help them, then you can talk about the solutions that you offer.

It's good to go for events, industry events and make some good contacts who are very active in these events. They will definitely come very handy when you need any help.

Re: Some Important Tips for Successful Business Networking

Hi

Another tip I have for you is to focus on helping someone. I can still remember I was attending a business networking a few years back, there is this successful sales professional who asks me, "So, KC, tell me how can I help you in your business?". This question literally stops me on track and have me thinking real hard because I have never been asked before! You can imagine how much I appreciate that particular person who is willing to lend me a helping hand. Always think in terms of the other person and you will never go wrong.

To conclude, first impression is very important and it is critical to portray the professional image that you want others to perceive. Having a positive attitude will help to lead the way and following up with a sincere heart to help the other person will almost guarantee successful networking and business deals!

Thanks

Re: Some Important Tips for Successful Business Networking

Hello Friends,
Business networking is an art, not a science. But good networking takes skill, and the more experience you have, the better you’ll be, not only at creating a network, but at the actual art of networking. But there are tips that will always stand you in good stead when you’re networking, be it at an event or even just in casual meetings. These networking tips are all intended to help you make the most of your time and contacts when networking, and to make the most of yourself.
Always be prepared to network. Do your research about the people you’ll be meeting, what kind of an event it is and how you should act. If it’s a formal event, then present yourself formally. You’ll find that the networking will arise naturally out of conversations you have with those around you – business networking can be an organic thing.Psych yourself up before a networking event. Remind yourself why you’re there, that you’re good at what you do (you wouldn’t be attending otherwise) and that your company, as well as its services and products, is the best. Go in believing in who you are and what you do, and you’ll find some very successful networking.
Remember why you’re there – to network. The free food and drink might be appealing, but they’re not the reason you’re attending a networking event. Focus on business. Remember names, collect business cards. Talk briefly but effectively, and don’t bore people! Set yourself goals, such as making three good network contacts at an event. Work the room effectively!
It’s not solely about increasing your own network. You can introduce others to each other, or earmark a new contact for an older one where they can help each other. It might not have any immediate benefit for you, but people do remember these things and return favors later. Also, the more you become acknowledged as a resource, the more people will come to you.
Thanks.
