Just wanted to say "hi" and introduce myself 😀
My name is Ray, aka "Rocky". Don't ask how I got that nicname!!
In my past life I was a Director of Information Technology for an organization with 10,000 people. I retired in 2003 and moved to BEE-UUU-TEE-FULLL Mobile Alabama to marry and be with my wonderful wife Jennifer.
I spend most of my time fishing and gardening, along with my marine aquarium hobby. Being a long-time IT person, and needing to fill the idle hours, I started a web hosting service because, well, because I could :p I also recently wrote an ebook about what it takes to run an online business; something I am quite familiar with.
I've actually been a "lurker" in this forum for a while. In fact, I reference it in the ebook. I'm just now staring to get the time to be a more active member, and hopefully I can share some of my experiences with others.
For what it's worth, I ran a part-time online (pre-web) business from the basement of my home between 1988 and 1993. That business, TCM Computing, grossed around $250,000 a year so I do know a few things.
I'm also looking forward to learning from others in here. I'm smart enough to know what I don't know. I am a complete and unrepentant believer in the power of small business and the American Dream!!!
So hello all, nice to make your acquaintance. If you ever get to Mobile AL, drop me a line. I'd be MORE than happy to take you fishing on Mobile Bay or the Delta!!!! 😀

Thank goodness you've stopped lurking in the shadows! You sound like you've got a wealth of experience you can share with the rest of us. I look forward to seeing your posts.
I'm afraid I have no idea about the American dream.....because I'm in the UK. But I do have my own dreams!!!! One of them does include visiting your country one day......so is the fishing trip on offer to us overseas folk?!!!!

I appreciate that Sandy, and I'll try not to be such a stranger from now on.
To be honest, I was pretty busy working on the ebook for a while. I actually used some of the info I got in this forum for parts of it (with due credit of course).
I'll try to help out when I can. More recently, I have really been getting into the article submission thing. I tend to be a prolific writer and I enjoy the heck out of it. Other than that, with my background in IT, I tend to mostly concentrate on my hosting service (proud to say Lama is a client of mine 🙂
And YES!!!! If you EVER get to the states in the Alabama area, I would be more than happy to take you fishing!!!! (it's just an excuse for me -- hehe).
As for the American Dream, I think that is more of a univeral thing in all free countries of the world. I don't really think the US and the UK are any different in that. Several of my wifes partners are in the UK (Robert Puddy and Graham Hamer). Another (Michael Russell) is in Australia. I truly believe all freedom loving people have the dream to achieve in their own business enterprise.
