Definitely. If you have a discount to offer and set up an online coupon (just a coupon code really) take advantage of it well beyond your website. Send out some press releases and articles about your store or something of general interest with a sponsored by message attached and your coupon code.
You may want to limit the coupon to the first 1000 visitors though - people will be in more of a hurry to buy or to forward such a great deal to their friends which at the end of the day means more people visiting your online store.
