How do I approach this startup idea?

I have an energy drink that I really like and thus believe in. I have noticed that it is not in any stores (gas station convenience... etc) and I have thus had to order it online. Recently I made contact with the sales team and questioned this, and said that I am interested in distributing their product in my city. They were actually quite happy and even gave me some samples.
So now here's the thing. I have NO idea how to go about this, even though I have a general feel that I will just enter as many stores and ask to speak to a manager and then if interested give him or her an ice cold energy drink to try.
But what is the procedure? Do the stores (if they agree), actually buy the product, or do they just stock it for you and you pay them for doing so?
Lastly... I guess I am just afraid of failure and dissapointment, but I am also far more courageous that ever before in my life, so what advice can anyone give me as I embark on this venture?
Thank you

Energy Drinks, tough stuff.
We deal with selling advertising products and I've always found that the more face time you get with potential clients is the most key thing to selling your product. You will have to come up with a prop for gas stations etc. So really it's up to you. I would suggest finding out what other promotors do to get there products on the shelf. Talk to your potential clients and see what they say without giving to much away. It's most likely they will take a per product percentage. Hope that helps. Good Luck.
