Absolutely great ideas! The majority of staff in this organization are "lifers" which means they have been employed. They have seen managers come and go with little or no positive results. I genuinely have a passion for our work and I'd like to impart that to the team in an effective, tangible manner. I believe I have had a significant impact on them professionally; however, the challenge is now to obtain their buy-in and create a more positive experience as well as implement creative strategies to improve the overall work environment. Alfie Kohn in his groundbreaking book Punished by Rewards quotes study after study which show that rewards actually inhibit things such as creativity, risk-taking, information sharing, quick problem-solving and encourages directive command and control type behavior from supervisors.

Dissatisfaction and poorer performance are often the results e.g. when an expected bonus level is not achieved even though a great deal of effort was expended or rewards are distributed in an inequitable manner.
