Sole Proprietorship and Tax Deductions

Hi. My wife is starting to clean houses as a part time business. I know any supplies she buys for cleaning would be tax deductible. What about the following:

  • Cell Phone? Would we be able to deduct part of the bill if say 30% of the time the phone was used for buisness?
  • Our second vehicle? We have a suv that we rarely drive but we still owe money one it. If she used this vehicle for her part time job, could anything be tax deductible? Gas? Repairs? Payments? This vehicle would probably be used 70% of the time for "business only" purposes.

Thanks for any help!

Re: Sole Proprietorship and Tax Deductions

Expenses that should be included in the tax deduction of a home business include the payroll, the supplies, the materials, and the interest rate on business loans among others. There are many other types of expenses that can be included and you may consult with the IRS or your accountant if a particular expense you incur can be included.

Really it's a useful link where a person will take advantage of the link to know more details. Person can assert a percentage of rent or mortgage and utility bills of the office resources as small business tax deductions as it will be included in the office expenses.
