Hi,
can anyone tell me which of the following two CPUs is likely to be the fastest - I've tried looking at various sites, but can't seem to find both on any one list.
1) AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dualcore 2.40Ghz
2) Intel Pentium Dualcore E2200 2.2 GHz
I'm in the process of replacing the CPU/Motherboard in my mother's computer, and would like to know if one of these CPUs is appreciably faster than the other.

AMD Athlons don't have any problem with 32 bit programs. It'll handle every program. Even 16 bit. I believe it has nothing to do with the CPU but the operating system. If you have Windows XP 64 bit installed, then you can't handle 16bit programs, though, you still can run 32 bit programs I believe.
Just use the regular Windows and you're fine.
