I notice so much time and effort is put into SEO and PPC ads and blah, blah blah, but the one thing that most small business overlook is that it doesn't matter how many people visit your website if they click away within a second or two.

Please (and no, this isn't just because it's my job, this is genuine (and free) advice) keep in mind how important it is to present the image your customers expect to see!

If you sell high-end electronics, they'll want to see a sleek, clean, technically accurate site. If you sell cheap tat as inexpensive gifts, show the customers a website that looks like an "AS SEEN ON TV" flea market booth.

Keep your customers in mind and make sure you visually present the image they want to see.

🙂

I couldn't agree with you more. For me, the first impression of a website is indeed very important. I often come across sites with poor design and won't even stop to read one word, but sales conversion is also an important factor to keep in mind. If certain designs get in the way of your sales pitch or have poor navigation, its best to just stick with a simple site.
