Viral Marketing!

The company I work for is in direct competition with corporate giants like Microsoft and Oracle. That being the case, it's pretty hard for us to get our name out there. In 2006 we contacted the brilliant guys over at Barats & Bereta Productions to see if they'd be interested in helping us gain a little brand name recognition. The result was the phenomenon known as Cubicle Wars 2006. All we asked was that they mention our company name once and left the rest of the video up to them. It was a big risk, but with close to 2.5 million views on YouTube we think it was well worth it. Sure, it's probably not the most relevant add and we didn't see a massive increase in sales, but it definitely helped spread the Windward name and we made some people laugh in the process. We're also happy to announce that Cubicle Wars 2010 is in the works. Stay tuned...

Re: Viral Marketing!

The buzzwords viral marketing and viral advertising refer to marketing techniques that use pre-existing social networks to produce increases in brand awareness or to achieve other marketing objectives (such as product sales) through self-replicating viral processes, analogous to the spread of pathological and computer viruses. It can be word-of-mouth delivered or enhanced by the network effects of the Internet.[1] Viral promotions may take the form of video clips, interactive Flash g***s, advergames, ebooks, brandable software, images, or even text messages.

The goal of marketers interested in creating successful viral marketing programs is to identify individuals with high Social Networking Potential (SNP) and create Viral Messages that appeal to this segment of the population and have a high probability of being taken by another competitor.

The term "viral marketing" has also been used pejoratively to refer to stealth marketing campaigns—the unscrupulous use of astroturfing on-line combined with undermarket advertising in shopping centers to create the impression of spontaneous word of mouth enthusiasm.

Re: Viral Marketing!

Hello
Viral marketing increases online sales! That concept seems to pop up everywhere on Internet marketing resources. So what exactly is viral marketing?

The simplest way to explain viral marketing is to think in terms of mainstream networking. Your contacts know about you and your site and you hope to that they pass that information on to someone else. But hoping is not a good way to approach web marketing, you need to be pro-active in promotion.

By implementing viral marketing strategies, you provide an incentive for web site visitors to carry a sales message. This incentive is usually a free "carrier" tool for that marketing message or a means by which it is easier for people to spread the word about your products and services. The idea is not to push your visitors into delivering your sales message to others, but as a side effect of them gaining benefit from a utility or service that you offer.

Re: Viral Marketing!

Right now I am finding Vidoes are going Viral faster and faster. Once you put one up on YouTube, it seems to get sc****d right away by at least 5 - 10 sites. Make a really good one and the results can/will be phenominal. While articles can go Viral pretty fast, Im seeing more and more videos really starting to bring in visitors to my clienst sites.
