Marketing research, as a sub-set aspect of marketing activities, can be divided into the following parts:

* Primary research (also known as field research), which involves the conduction and compilation of research for the purpose it was intended.
* Secondary research (also referred to as desk research), is initially conducted for one purpose, but often used to support another purpose or end goal.

By these definitions, an example of primary research would be market research conducted into health foods, which is used solely to ascertain the needs/wants of the target market for health foods. Secondary research, again according to the above definition, would be research pertaining to health foods, but used by a firm wishing to develop an unrelated product.

Primary research is often expensive to prepare, collect and interpret from data to information. Nonetheless, while secondary research is relatively inexpensive, it often can become outdated and outmoded, given it is used for a purpose other than for which is was intended. Primary research can also be broken down into quantitative research and qualitative research, which as the labels suggest, pertain to numerical and non-numerical research methods, techniques. The appropriateness of each mode of research depends on whether data can be quantified (quantitative research), or whether subjective, non-numeric or abstract concepts are required to be studied (qualitative research).

There also exists additional modes of marketing research, which are:

* Exploratory research, pertaining to research that investigates an assumption.
* Descriptive research, which as the label suggests, describes "what is".
* Predictive research, meaning research conducted to predict a future occurrence.
* Conclusive research, for the purpose of deriving a conclusion via a research process.

Re: Types of marketing Research

Using a company like TNS or GfK various research or data collection techniques and provide different levels of service, the amount of different types of what I would describe as fieldwork operations - that the survey is to sell .

IDC different people like that are selling a different type of research - such as IDC survey customers can take out the necessary people, but they have more suppliers to the polls and talking with suppliers and developing a market outlook for they are likely to be what they talk back to the people they sell. IT suppliers to measure stock market as they collate all the sales numbers, they will shuffle the top of which they then sell the data "add expert commentary on the report back as the stock market for example.

ACNielsen data also Collator the same level, but generally collates data supermarket sales data, which then amalgamates it and then as part suppliers, sells back to the entrance, etc.

Also there's an example of statistical modeling of other researchers and experts who carry out fieldwork directly - are Bunch 'consultants who acquired their own expertise to sell and therefore decided to pass on their data or companies Efficiency. I am real consultants to those that are running - what do they plan to work out and then applying should help.

Quantitative marketing research - generally drew conclusions - tests a specific hypothesis - uses random sampling techniques so as to sample the population estimates - resondents includes a large number of - examples include surveys and questionnaires
Overview - Technology - Researchers in the social event to see their natural setting are comments across sectionally (observations made at a time) or (longitudinally many observations occur over time) can - for example using the product contains analysis and computer cookie traces
Experimental Technique - Researchers for a semi-artificial environment to try to contain factors creates duplicate, at least one variable - for example manipulates markets include purchase laboratories and test

Re: Types of marketing Research

Market analysis can be absolutely admired to your business, as not alone do you acquisition out what your barter want, they in about-face feel like their assessment affairs authoritative them added acceptable to buy from you again.Indeed it is more a matter of need, appropriateness and what actually works regarding a particular client base or part thereof. This becomes even moreso when you have clients both national and international.Your comparison between the suppliers of custom/primary research and those who provide secondary research based consulting while correct,is much too kind.
