Need Marketing Advice For Unique Product

Hello,

My name is Nadav Shenker. I am involved in the start of a company, who's functional name for now is Chap (Canadian Health Aid Products). We will be making medical clothing, with our first product being shirts. We will have shirts for a wide variety of uses. We have just about proven that the silver solution applied directly on the textiles has a huge impact on scars, sunburns, and acne. We are currently still testing, but are positive, that it will be very effective for other things as well.

I am not sure how to market these products or the website. The website is still in development but it will have a nice flash intro and then both a flash and html version of the site. There will be a separate section for the sales processing where we will basically have a store within the website. No prices will ever be mentioned except within the store. We are trying to have a real professional look as there are so many scams out there these days that we want to differentiate ourselves from them.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to market such products either online or offline. So far I can think of PPC advertisements and affiliate networks. These are pretty hot problems in the market (scar reduction, acne, & sunburn relief) so I am sure that as long as the marketing aspect is taken care of this company can grow quite significantly.

Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated.
I thank you all in advance.

Re: Need Marketing Advice For Unique Product

As you mentioned with medical products it is important to build trust with the consumer. Some evidence of this would be scientific studies proving your products work, video testimonials and demonstrations, news coverage. On the shopping cart level having "secure related symbols" so people know their information is being protected.

PPC will always work but you have to find your target market first. I would look at medical sales to find out which solutions your product will solve that has a fairly large market that perhaps is being dissatisfied with the current offerings. Good luck.

Thank you.
You mentioned a couple things that I had not thought of, that I believe would be very useful. What sort of "secure related symbols" do you mean, besides the ssl certificate?

Most payment gateways have a security symbol as well as some shopping carts. You may also want to look at buySAFE - strongest trust signal in e-commerce and other sites like the better business bureau

Perfect.
Thanks a lot.
I will check out buySAFE, and getting registered with the BBB is also a very good idea.

Thanks for you advice.
If anyone else has any thoughts I'd love to hear them

Re: Need Marketing Advice For Unique Product

Most companies, whether big or small, direct their marketing to select niche audiences. Even the country's largest manufacturers target carefully pinpointed market segments to maximize the effectiveness of their programs and often tackle different niches for each product group. Hewlett-Packard, for example, markets all-in-one machines that print, fax and scan to segments of the home office market, while targeting larger businesses for higher-priced, single-function units.

Niche marketing can be extremely cost-effective. For instance, imagine you offer a product or service that's just right for a select demographic or ethnic group in your area, such as Hispanics or Asians. You could advertise on ethnic radio stations, which have considerably lower rates than stations that program for broader audiences. So your marketing budget would go a lot further, allowing you to advertise with greater frequency or to use a more comprehensive media mix.
