7 Small Business Marketing Tips

1. Don't Advertise Like a Big Business

Big businesses advertise to create name recognition and future sales. A small business can't afford to do that.

2. Offer a Cheaper Version

Some prospective customers are not willing to pay the asking price for your product or service. Others are more interested in paying a low price than in getting the best quality. You can avoid losing sales to many of these customers by offering a smaller or stripped down version of your product or service at a lower price.

3. Offer a Premium Version

Not all customers are looking for a cheap price. Many are willing to pay a higher price to get a premium product or service. You can boost your average size sale and your total revenue by offering a more comprehensive product or service ...or by combining several products or services in a special premium package offer for a higher price.

4. Try Some Unusual Marketing Methods

Look for some unconventional marketing methods your competitors are overlooking. You may discover some highly profitable ways to generate sales and avoid competition.

5. Trim Your Ads

Reduce the size of your ads so you can run more ads for the same cost. You may even be surprised to find that some of your short ads generate a better response than their longer versions.

6. Set up Joint Promotions with Other Small Businesses

Contact some non-competing small businesses serving customers in your market.

7. Take Advantage of Your Customers

Your customers already know and trust you. It's easier to get more business from them than to get any business from somebody who never bought from you. Take advantage of this by creating some special deals just for your existing customers ...and announce new products and services to them before you announce them to the general market.

Re: 7 Small Business Marketing Tips

Your all the tips are very impressive.
Hello everyone,

I'm a Marketing Coach who works with small business owners to help them develop marketing strategies and Attract More Clients to them. Just wanted to share with you my top 3 tips on improving small business marketing and creating outstanding results:

1. Stop the Adhoc approach and get a Marketing System in place: Many small business owners dabble with many different marketing messages. One week they'll go to a networking events and pick up some business cards, next week they'll update the website and the week after that they might run an ad in the local paper. Without an over-arching and automated marketing system results are very limited.

2. Switch your focus to be lead generated Most small business owners advertising is geared towards making the sale upfront from the initial point of contact with the customer. The purpose of advertising is not to make a sale it should be to generate a lead that overtime can be converted into a paying customer.

3. A database is KING The most important part of any small business should be its database. Developing a database of customers and prospective leads should be the No 1 focus of any small business owner.

Hope you enjoyed my tips and comments are very welcome!

Regards,

Re: 7 Small Business Marketing Tips

Don't forget to include public speaking! It's a great way to get in front of a captive group of buyers and impress them with what you know. You don't even have to sell! Just educate your audience and they'll be asking you for help on your way out the door. And, just like the above post mentions, make sure to add the folks that saw you speak to your prospect database.

Re: 7 Small Business Marketing Tips

Hello friends

One of my fellow Duct Tape Marketing Coaches is part of a new company that provides content for blog owners – The Blogger’s Voice. Here is how it works – a journalist from The Blogger’s Voice will research your website to discover which keywords are good for your content to target and optimize for. Then they will call and interview you – that’s what journalists do, right? Two days later, they will add the post to your blog. They will even update your social media statuses to let your online communities know you have a new post.

Thanks

Re: 7 Small Business Marketing Tips

# Business cards. Leave a few in the local library or with other local businesses where prospects gather; include a card in your postal mail; tack up a card on the bulletin board at your grocery store, etc.

# Direct mail. Flyers, brochures, catalogs, coupons.... there are all sorts of things you can send through the mail. Need help? Freelancers can create pretty much any type of direct mail promotional items for you at competitive rates.

# Keep a few business cards, brochures, flyers, or other information in your car that you can give out to people who stop to inquire about your business.

# Newspaper advertising. Keep in mind that classified ads are usually extremely short; you'll need a punchy, compelling ad that fits into just a few lines.

Re: 7 Small Business Marketing Tips

Thanks for the post,

Those look like great ideas, what point 2 and 3 is concerned,
besides offering a cheaper version and a premium version
you might also consider to offer your product in a different way

For example you could make a report or ebook into a
Video or slide show presentation or an audio product.

Than you could offer them for example as 3 individual products:

1) an eBook
2) an Audio of the eBook

or

3) the eBook AND the Audio both.

That way offering several possibilities
for the customer to choose from.

All the Best,

This is what helped me boost my business immediately.
As soon as I started offering a smaller package that was 1/5 of the regular cost, the sales increased by 30%.
Thanks for the great post! 😀

Re: 7 Small Business Marketing Tips

If you haven't clearly communicated the advantages and solid reasons for customers to do business with you, then they'll be hesitant to commit and the sale will go to your competitor.
