Your backlinks strategy?

I've emailed many (competitor) web sites for link exchange and few of them responded.Backlinking with similar web sites can improve the SERP dramatically. How do you manage to get backlinks from similar web sites?

Re: Your backlinks strategy?

You used the term competitor - why would a competitor link to you? Unless I am missing something. What you want to find are complementary sites.

Re: Your backlinks strategy?

If you are looking for reciprocal links it should be reciprocal. If you have a pr1 and you are asking a pr5 to back link to you - you will not have much success. What you can do though is swap another site that you may have and tell them you will backlink your pr4 site with them if they back link to your pr1 site. Just make sure it is in the same industry.

Re: Your backlinks strategy?

My understanding is that google likes relevant links to your site and a relevant link with a high PR without a backlink is worth a lot more than the opposite.

Re: Your backlinks strategy?

I don't ask for backlinks....it is a headache. I just get one way links and a few backlinks, and my traffic is rising on a daily basis.

Hi Brandon, how do you get one way backlinks by posting on forums, facebook etc?

Re: Your backlinks strategy?

Posting good messages on forums is a nice way to get back links, but your site content is the most importanat thing. If you have a site with LOTs of great content, you will get more traffic than a poor site with lots and lots of links. Focus on the content first and then get some links.

So how to get links? The best way is to have a site that people want to link to. After then you have to beg or buy links. One of the best ways is to submit your site to as many search engines and directories as you can. Use a service like Nationsubmit.com, Submit2please.com,or others. I think it's the best way to get a large number of links quickly. And don't worry so much about what Google thinks, unless you know you are breaking a specific rule they post in their Webmaster Guidelines. Don't try to "cheat" and you will be just fine...!

Within forums I always have text anchor link signatures like below. Then with facebook, I always leave a link at the end of a wall post with my name as well. And then I also make post within groups including my link.
