Re: What is SMM?

Word of mouth marketing that can span the globe in seconds and cost virtually nothing? That's the promise of Social Media Marketing. Knowing what it is and knowing how to do it are two vastly different things.
Just go to Facebook and see how many businesses have started pages that went nowhere. See how many tweets went over like a t**d in a punchbowl. Do you really have time (or budget) to do what it takes to make SMM work? Now don't get me wrong, you can really leverage time and budget with SMM.
If you can make your Facebook page engaging, and drive enough traffic to it to make it go viral then you have a marketing juggernaut. But you can't do that by throwing up a page and having a few of your (real life) friends, or employees make comments. One viral YouTube video and you're a household name. But most of these happen by accident, not design. If you can tweet every day and be engaging or interesting, or funny, without pitching you will get re-tweeted. Otherwise, you're just wasting your time.
SMM may be the most efficient, powerful set of marketing tools in history. But don't let anyone tell you it's simple, foolproof, etc. There are some very specific tools and techniques that can drive a Social Media campaign to success. But just jumping in and playing around will only waste your time.

Re: What is SMM?

There are hundreds of social media sites that you can use to increase your online visibility. The potential of Social Media strategies is endless when you consider how quickly information can be dispersed through networks of users. By using SMO your message is less likely to be viewed as "push" advertising because when a friend recommends something people view it less skeptically.
