Re: what is e-mail marketing?

Email marketing is most effective by putting a subscription option on your website. If you try to just put out emails to a random list most of it will go to a spam box. By getting people to subscribe to your email list they are giving you permission. Some may go into spam, but at least you know that person wants it and they will generally remove it from spam.

If you are on social networking sites you can do it on there as well to send to all of your followers and fans. All of this is free to do. If you want to pay for it you can go through sites that are "trusted" and they will send the emails for you. Since they are trusted they generally will not go to spam. More effective, but can get costly. On social sites you can also pay for advertising which some consider "new email marketing". It does not go directly to their email but when they are on their social site they get advertisements on the side. If they see them and are interested they can click on it for more info.
