Re: What is cloaking?

Cloaking is a search engine optimization (SEO) technique in which the content presented to the search engine spider is different from that presented to the user's browser. This is done by delivering content based on the IP addresses or the User-Agent HTTP header of the user requesting the page. When a user is identified as a search engine spider, a server-side script delivers a different version of the web page, one that contains content not present on the visible page, or that is present but not searchable. The purpose of cloaking is sometimes to deceive search engines so they display the page when it would not otherwise be displayed (black hat SEO). However, it can also be a functional (though antiquated) technique for informing search engines of content they would not otherwise be able to locate because it is embedded in non-textual containers such as video or certain Adobe Flash components.

Re: What is cloaking?

Cloaking generally means to present different version of web page contents from of search engines to search robots and human visitors based on their browser's user agent or IP address. It's a deceptive method used to cheat search engines in order to rank well for desired keywords.

Not always but in most of the cases, cloaking is also used to trick users to visit certain websites based on their description in search engines. For example a user searching for some product may click on a website in search engine based on its description and title but the final website will not be the one described in SERP's. It will be a totally different one. Therefore, these practices that are designed to manipulate search engines and deceive users by directing them to sites other than the ones they selected, and that provide content solely for the benefit of search engines should be avoided.

Re: What is cloaking?

Yes, I agree. But I think the usual cloaking strategy isn't working now since the biggest updates of Google like Caffeine and Panda.

Re: What is cloaking?

Cloaking is a way of hiding one after another by putting text the same color as the background color, so invisible to the human eye but readable by a search engine. This will make high-level fast, but very little time. The search engine is set for a review, and you risk the possibility of getting banned from SERPs.

According to Google's cloaking "site, which returns the changed pages for search engines to index your site." In other words, people who read the site would see different content or information as the Googlebot or other search engine robots read the site. Most of the time, covering in place to improve on search engines to mislead the search engine robots do not believe that the content of the page is different than it actually is.
