what is Backlinks.

Backlinks enable you to keep track of other pages on the web that link to your posts. For instance, suppose Alice writes a blog entry that Bob finds interesting. Bob then goes to his own blog and writes a post of his own about it, linking back to Alice's original post. Now Alice's post will automatically show that Bob has linked to it, and it will provide a short snippet of his text and a link to his post. What it all works out to is a way of expanding the comment feature such that related discussions on other sites can be included along with the regular comments on a post.

Re: what is Backlinks.

Backlinks are like fingerprints that connect to your website. When I say fingerprints I mean that I can go to other webpages and leave my url and thats considered a backlink to my site. To build traffic to your website and to move up in Google & Alexa ranking one should build backlinks continually. The more backlinks the more traffic that you can potentially get back to your site.
The basic kind of backlinks are no follow & do follow. A combination of both kinds can increase in the SERPS.

Re: what is Backlinks.

Hi everyone,

A back link is an inward link to your site that may or may not be reciprocated with an outward link back. If page A links to page B then a back link would be a link which goes from page B back to page A.

Re: what is Backlinks.

Backlinks are links that are directed towards your website. Also knows as Inbound links (IBL's). The number of backlinks is an indication of the popularity or importance of that website. Backlinks are important for SEO because some search engines, especially Google, will give more credit to websites that have a good number of quality backlinks, and consider those websites more relevant than others in their results pages for a search query.

Re: what is Backlinks.

Backlinks are incoming links to a website. For example, a site with a lot of backlinks implies that many other sites link to that site.Back links are reasonable benchmark to determine Google Search Engine Result Page on a site.

I completely agree with you.. Backlinks are incoming links to a website..For example, a site with many links that point involves many other sites to this site..Incidentally, no need to create a button or put information on the page. You can only know how many people on the web is linked to the home page.

Re: what is Backlinks.

Now that we have beat the "what is a backlink?" topic to death, it's worth noting that not all backlinks are created equal. The search engines also take in the value of the link. If you get a backlink from a high PR site, it is worth more than a link from a PR0 site. One PR5 backlink is probably worth 50 PR0 backlinks. The search engines also consider the relevency of the site that gave the backlink. If you have a mechanic business, and your backlinks are from sources that have nothing to do with your business, then they dont carry the same value...

Re: what is Backlinks.

In simple words Backlink is link that you received from other websites. A backlink is any link received by a web node (web page, directory, website, or top level domain) from another web node. Backlinks are also known as incoming links, inbound links, inlinks, and inward links.
