Here some best ways to keep visitors coming back to your website.

1) Start a forum, chatroom or shoutbox
2) Start a web log (blog)
3) Carry out polls or surveys
4) Hold puzzles, quizzes and g***s
5) Update frequently with fresh content

Two of the things that will make sure you have good return visits are:

your product and your services.

Some ways to make sure they are aware of them or reminded in case they forget is by:
sending news letters (if they permitted you to do so)
sending some press release (if they permitted you to do so)

It DOESN'T work for all website niche. It can work for a blog or something of that sort though but in a content that there is a sales pitch, it would be neglected by people specially in social networks. For heaven's sake those places are not ADVERTISING sites.

Offer something valuable to your visitors! It can be information, product or service. You can also start some reward program in order to keep your visitors coming back.
