We've found that the blogs on our site generate a lot more traffic than either our Twitter or facebook fan pages. They help customers see the people behind the company, and I think they're fun!

Calling19 is right but it shouldn't be seen as "lurking". Seeing what people are saying about you and your competitors online is an important starting point for social media marketing success and, as such, it should be positively encouraged.

I agree, I get about 40% of my total qualified leads from facebook only, and I'm hardly able to give it an hour or two a day.

It definitely depends on where your ideal client is hanging out...The mistake we often see with small business owners, is that they choose marketing strategies or trends based on what other people are doing, or what THEY like, with total disregard to who their client is and where they are looking for their product and service. We have seen some real great successes with social media in certain niches, and we have seen that in other niches social media has no business being part of the strategy...
