*Protect life, health and property.

*“Key man insurance.” Protect your business if you lose a partner or key employee. Also, insure yourself to safeguard your spouse and family.

* Life insurance for employees. Consider offering a term policy. This is a benefit you can offer and even underwrite as an added value.

* Health insurance. A comprehensive health insurance policy will help you recruit and retain good employees. It will also help employees stay healthy and productive.

* Property insurance. Obtain broad property coverage to protect you from a variety of losses in case of theft or disaster.

Re: Insurance for small business

The purpose of insurance is to transfer a risk that you can afford (i.e. the payment of a premium with no guarantee of its return) to cover a risk you cannot afford. For example, what homeowner does not insure his or her personal residence from damage by fire?

Besides your attorney and accountant, another professional you will need to bring into the start-up process will be your insurance agent. It may be helpful to have one agent who can handle all of your insurance needs. There are policies available that are specifically designed to cover small businesses that, in one package, will cover most of your insurance needs.

Insurance is not only going to be important to you, but it will be important to your other business relationships. For example, if you choose to lease office space, the landlord will typically require that you furnish a certificate of insurance or be listed as an additional insured on your policy as assurance that your business will not disappear overnight in the event a loss occurs.

Re: Insurance for small business

When buying liability insurance, you can purchase either an "occurrence policy" or a "claims-made policy." An occurrence policy can cover claims made months or even years after the incident has occurred. The insurance company is obligated to review, and if warranted, pay for any claims made resulting from an incident that took place during the coverage period, even if the claim is reported at a later date. The more commonly used "claims-made policy" provides protection only while the policy is in force and claims are made during that time frame. Prior-act coverage may also be included, indicating that acts occurring within a specific time period (prior-act coverage period) will also be covered. Claims-made premiums are generally lower than occurrence policies.

Many umbrella or "business" liability insurance packages offered will cover your basic insurance needs. However, it's strongly advised that you read the fine print carefully, to make sure there are no gaps where you specifically need coverage.

Re: Insurance for small business

Small businesses often join or come together to form organizations to advocate for their causes or to achieve economies of scale that larger businesses benefit from, such as the opportunity to buy cheaper health insurance in bulk. These organizations include local or regional groups such as Chambers of Commerce, as well as national or international industry-specific organizations.

Re: Insurance for small business

Hello,

The success of a business, whether it's a tiny enterprise run out of a basement or a large corporation, is largely dependent on hard work and ingenuity. However, no matter how industrious you are, one disaster can wipe out all your profits and even destroy your business. The key to making sure that all the effort and money you have invested in a business doesn't disappear when a disaster strikes is to protect it with the appropriate insurance.

Thank You
Nadia
