What's the average age of the business on here?

Hello
Why am I starting here? Because I know it's easy to get caught up in a cycle of negativity right now but if you want to succeed you absolutely MUST rise above it. People are still going to buy no matter what the economy is doing. It's YOUR job to position your products and services as the ones they buy.

So how do you do that? Here are three tips to get you started.

1. Dance with the one who brought you. In other words, now is not the time to abandon the marketing strategies and tactics that got you here. A lot of business owners will be tempted to cut back, especially their marketing. This is a mistake. If anything, you should increase your marketing now.

However, by increasing your marketing I don't necessarily mean increasing how much you spend. It's perfectly acceptable to find low-cost or no-cost marketing methods to still keep the momentum going. One word of warning -- there's no such thing as a free lunch. Chances are you're going to pay somewhere, and that payment could very well be your time. Before you rush into doing something you end up regretting, take a hard look at the real cost. Would you be better off doing something that might cost more but doesn't suck up time you could be using to make money?

Here are some tactics you can do right now to increase your exposure without necessarily costing you much (if anything):

a. Start an email newsletter, or if you already publish one, increase the frequency you send it out. (Weekly is best. The more often your list hears from you, the more responsive they'll become.)

b. Hold a free teleclass. Make sure you come up with a really great special offer to turn your listeners into customers.

c. Go buy a new dress and hang out on the social networking scene. Okay, I'm kidding about the dress. But if you aren't making the social networking rounds, you're missing major business opportunities. No it's not a waste of time (unless you let it become one).

I'm curious as to the average age of the businesses (not owners) that are on this forum and also what sort of information you would find valuable in running your business.

Re: What's the average age of the business on here?

Recent research has confirmed what Freud said so long ago – that to a certain extent, we are ual beings from the very start of our existence.

Some American scientists have even claimed during the last few years that with the aid of special X-rays, male babies can be seen rubbing their **es while still in the womb. However, not everyone agrees with their interpretation of these images. We don't.

Nonetheless, these days pretty well all experts agree that your uality has already begun when you are a baby.

Psychologists say that even the youngest infants feel warmth, closeness, bodily contact and pleasant sensations when snuggling up to their mothers and sucking at the nipple. Sigmund Freud stated that the learning of uality commences at the mother’s ***.

Medical personnel have found by careful observation of small boys that they often get **s – particularly after the age of about seven. But uality does not exist only in the genitals. It's part of everything surrounding you and who you are. That is why youngsters may become passionately fond of (say) a film star, or a pop singer – or a teacher.

Theoretically speaking a business has unlimited life according to going concern rule. But in practice we can notice that businesses have lower age trend and the reason is that the financial crisis has made global economy vulnerable for business growth.

Re: What's the average age of the business on here?

My company M3Server.com was started back in 1996. We are celebrating our 15 year anniversary this November. Believe me when I say it has been a long and tough road. Me and my partner started this company when we both got out of the Air Force and neither one of us came from a rich back ground. Once we secured a small business loan to get started it was pedal to the metal to keep afloat. Most businesses go out of business within a year. Especially smaller businesses without a huge money investor or partner. We have fought for every penny and paid off all debts.

So what do I consider valuable information about running your own business... First you have to have the desire to work hard and succeed. Even though you are your own boss, failure is always just around the corner and you must keep at it every minute. Always think out every decision you make. Plan for rough times and save for emergencies. Once you are up and running you need to market, market, market. Continued growth or even existance in the business world means you are getting new customers or selling more products. Without income you can't stay afloat.

I would not change anything though, it has been a very fun ride for 15 years and I plan on doing it for another 15...

Businesses can be run indefinitely depending on the heir to the family. It depends on the genes. The successor is the one who helps in growing the business.

Re: What's the average age of the business on here?

As Denver homeowners, we face specific challenges for our Denver plumbing needs due to our unique geographic conditions. High-altitude and freezing winter temperatures combine to exert additional pressure on plumbing pipes and sink drainage systems. Frigid temperatures combined with water produce ice, which expands in the pipes, causing them to crack. Vent pipes are also at the mercy of Denver winters, with snow accumulation and ice preventing water from draining properly. As local Denver plumbers and plumbers in the Aurora CO area, we not only see it every day on the job, we experience plumbing problems in our own homes.

How old is the average Twitter or Facebook user? What about all the other social network sites, like MySpace, LinkedIn, and so on? How is age distributed across the millions and millions of social network users out there?

Re: What's the average age of the business on here?

I have been in business for 5 years now. They say the average 'start-up' flames out within 2 years for a combination of financial and personal reasons. I found it was important to have a secondary source of income while building up my business, changing my mindset from 'employee' to 'business owner', and every time I started to falter and consider giving up I thought about WHY I had started my business in the first place. That was a great motivator for me!

I have to agree that rich kids should still learn how to work for themselves as having a family business doesn't mean that the kids knows the business.
