Google Earth is a map of the world on steroids. You can zoom and glide over stitched together satellite photos of the world. Use Google Earth to find driving directions, find nearby restaurants, measure the distance between two locations, do serious research, or go on virtual vacations.

The same as google maps, it helps people find the location they want to get to. what other businesses do is that they get their businesses listed in those sites so whenever people search for a certain location, they also show up in the map.

I remembered that the was a LatLong post about this earlier in the year and found it back in July. It did list a couple of cities I had missed/forgotten about. They also had a map that does seem to be updated. I don't know that it's 'official' but I linked to it from the tutorial just before the list I supply.
