Four Effective Small Business Marketing Tips

New Member

Hello,

# Utilize Your Customers
The most overlooked aspect of growing your business could be staring right at you every day. Your current customers already know you and trust, or at least they should know and trust you. Take advantage of your customer base by offering incentives or special deals for referrals. People who experience a good product or service enjoy sharing it with their friends.

# Don't Feel the Need to Advertise Like a Big Business
Big businesses have the marketing budget to spend on commercial slots or print ads. Small businesses typically do not which means you should not treat your marketing plan as if you need to advertise like the big businesses.

# Join Forces with Other Small Businesses
Small business owners often know other small business owners. There is a connection between small business owners and the dedication and hard work it takes to run a business.

# YouTube
The next time you do a job or service have a camera set up and record and narrate the process of your service. After you have recorded go to YouTube and upload the content. You could also upload it to your website as an instructional video. YouTube is a great avenue for exposure and prospects can actually see your results and you or your business in action.

Re: Four Effective Small Business Marketing Tips

Hello Everyone,

I have found some good marketing techniques and want to share it here.

# Business cards. Leave a few in the local library or with other local businesses where prospects gather; include a card in your postal mail; tack up a card on the bulletin board at your grocery store, etc.

# Direct mail. Flyers, brochures, catalogs, coupons.... there are all sorts of things you can send through the mail. Need help? Freelancers can create pretty much any type of direct mail promotional items for you at competitive rates.

# Keep a few business cards, brochures, flyers, or other information in your car that you can give out to people who stop to inquire about your business.

# Newspaper advertising. Keep in mind that classified ads are usually extremely short; you'll need a punchy, compelling ad that fits into just a few lines.

# Get to the 'heart' of your audience by advertising in a quality magazine with loyal readers. U.S. Media Inc. lists a wide variety of trade and consumer magazines and publications.

# Participate in trade shows. Get exposure by networking with others in your industry. While you're there, you can even make a pen and paper available to collect the email addresses and/or postal addresses of people interested in receiving your newsletter or additional information about your product or service.

Thank you

Re: Four Effective Small Business Marketing Tips

There are many ways that you can market your business without spending any money. While it might be difficult to do an entire no-cost marketing plan that is effective and efficient, many of these ten ideas will definitely help stretch your marketing dollars. While free, some of these tips do require effort, and you may have to learn new skills, but others are so simple everyone can and should be doing them.

1. Say “thank you” to your customers. This is rather obvious, but many businesses do not have a “formal” process in place for saying thank you or showing appreciation to their customers. Say it verbally if possible, send an email, pick up the phone. Let your customers know you don’t take them for granted.

2. Free online classifieds and link listing. Don’t get carried away with this, but do take advantage of some of the free ad space online. Typically if you search one of the major search engines for “Your industry + add link you can find a few decent sites where you can list your business for free.

3. Article submission. There are many, many online article submission sites. The deal is that you write an article that others can use in their ezines or on their websites and in exchange, they give you “credit” at the end of the article in the form of an “author bio” or credit paragraph. Search for “article submission.” The more closely related the article is to your industry, the better. And, please triple-check grammar, spelling, and logic.

4. Publicity. This one has been around forever. Write press releases, and submit them to the local media and to online press sites. Learn about press releases first if you do no know how to write them. Press releases should be “newsworthy” and properly written.
