While allowing users to register accounts and contribute their own information and content, a social media site can create revenue from ads on the site as well as selling the members' information as marketing data.

Social media can be very useful in terms of marketing and branding of a business. But many social media tools should not be used at the same time. Using facebook, twitter, linkedin and blogs at the same time trying to market a business can be a very frustrating experience.
I work for a startup called EF Buys, and social media marketing is one of our main tools for marketing. We use emails as our main tool.

Facebook is also good, but some study suggests that 99% of the "facebook fans" never visit your site again.

A e-business has many special requirements, for example inventory management and product display. E-business platforms are platforms to help you take care of these requirements.

Re: What are the different e-business strategies and platforms?

Hello! I find some information from bidanswer maybe be usefull for you.

e-business strategies deal with how a company wishes to leverage the internet (or other electronic communication channels) to enhance their business offereings. The strategies include such decisions as what to offer and to whom to offer to and importantly how the company wants to be positioned.

Simplisticly the company decides that it wants to offer (for example) books straight to the public via an online bookstore - the strategy might then be to be the leader in online book sales to the general public. From this strategy we have discovered that the company wishes to be the leading book seller, in the online environment and directly to the public.

The strategies are further broken down into individual goals such as being the leading online book store in 6 months. The individual goals are then translated into plans which include decisions about the individual steps, resources and technoligies required to meet the goal.

an e-business platform is merely a technological decision that enable the company to enact its plans which fulfill the company goals and finally meet the strategies. The descision revolves around the use of existing solutions in the market or writing ones own platform. In the case of writing ones own platform the decision breaks down further to issues such as what hardware and software and what development tools are required. In simplistic terms the e-business platform is what enables the company to interact with the outside world (e.g. an online book store) and what it will allow the outside world to see (e.g. reviews about a book and price, but not your internal cost).

In summary then, one can say that the e-business strategy is what one wants to achieve in an e-business environment. The e-business platform is an enabler that allows the company to try meet its e-business strategies.
