Salary bench marking is a process to compare your salary with the position on which you are working or want to work . Salary bench marking information can be found on various job sites and there are professionals also who's work is to evaluate all these things . Salary bench marking is different in private and govt. sector .

Re: what do u mean by Salary benchmarking?

Another perspective on salary bench marking is to view it at as a way to gauge how much you can potentially make in the future. Meaning you are not bench marking it against other salaries in your field as abell mentioned which is a correct definition but bench marking your pay and its ability to expand based on some set of cost living expenses you have established. Salary bench marking is essentially anytime you take your salary and try to define some relationship between that number and another. It really does not matter what you are pegging your salary against.

What I do is I give out the average salary number of Baruch MFE graduates ... Sounds like a salary survey of Quantnet members with an MFE

Re: what do u mean by Salary benchmarking?

salary benchmarks are usually what I look at when considering companies to apply for. I mean nobody would want to work for a company that offers very low benefits and salary if you have good experience and achievements as a professional.

Re: what do u mean by Salary benchmarking?

Below are the questions that AUGI members were asked when filling out the survey. If you did not take part this time, be sure to come back next summer and chime in. Every year we try to improve the value of our survey, so, if you have any questions or suggestions for the future, please send an email to Melanie Perry, the AUGI Salary Survey Manager, at salarysurvey@augi.com (after you have read the FAQ) . Every suggestion is read and filed away for reference, when questions are reviewed each year. We try not to make too many changes, so that we can have some continuity from year to year, but, we always keep an open mind and a list of user input.

Thank you for your interest in this great source of information for members, from members!

I think salary benchmarking means that you have completed your work or Target that given you by a company where you are as an employee so this thing it is a benchmark for you which you completed.

Re: what do u mean by Salary benchmarking?

Put simply, a salary benchmark is how you compare your salary (or potential salary) to comparable positions across the same or different industries. There is more to it than just a dollar amount, though, as there may be wide variations in salary due to location, cost of living, experience, and other such influencing factors. A salary benchmark is not an absolute figure stating what you should be earning, but rather an educated gathering of information to determine where your salary falls in comparison to other similar positions
