Re: How to sell IT service

Great blog post.

One of the most effective selling strategies I used back when I was in IT sales was to put the customer in the driver seat.

It's extremely easy, especially in the complex world of IT, to ramble on about features and functionality. In reality though, the customers cares very little about what the product does. They're far more interested in what the product will do for them.

First and foremost, ask a lot of questions. Discover the customer's problem and then explain in simple terms how your product can provide the solution. A lot of the time a customer needs something different than what you may initially think, and by building relationships and understanding your customer you will be able to provide the best solution and thus build your company's positive reputation. Heck, even just chit chatting with your customers can build better relationships than aggressive selling techniques.

I could understand your point of view since I am an IT engineer myself. I know, Customer hardly understand what the code in the software is going to do. They only care about the end result or I should say the front-end results which they can see. So, All you to do is create an illusion of making everything possible of what customer demands

I'm involved with a startup software company and this is something we have trouble with every single day. We even created a subsite from our main website to cater more to business users since we felt they could easily get lost on our current site. You can't blame the engineers for wanting to tell you everything about what they've created, some of these projects are almost like their children! It really helps me to think about what someone on the outside's opinion would be for any product or marketing effort.

Also, you must be really careful about creating the illusion that you can or will do everything the customer wants. We've lost customers, and a few weeks of development resources, when we promised customers things that just were not feasible to deliver.

Re: How to sell IT service

Hello

1.Try direct mail. Buying or renting a good mailing list helps you reach the people most interested in your product.
2.Partner with another business and sell each other’s products or services. If you’re a caterer, for example, join forces with a wedding planner.
3.Use your Web site as a marketing tool. Sell items directly on the site or use the site to educate customers about your product or service.
4.Test coupons—in the Yellow Pages, in your local newspaper, or on your web site. Or, participate in a cooperative direct mail program like those offered by Val-Pak, Carol Wright, and other advertisers.
5.Offer a seminar and use it to sell—such as a cooking class if you make food products, or a meeting on long-term care insurance if you are a financial planner.

Thanks for reading

Re: How to sell IT service

Hello
There is a common misconception in the world that the world's oldest profession is prostitution. I would like to correct this bit of misinformation. The worlds oldest profession is, in fact, selling. Even the "ladies of the evening" made a deal before any goods or services were dispensed. Nothing happens in business, or anywhere else in life for that matter, until someone sells something.

The two types of products most often sold are tangible and intangible. Tangible products are products that we can touch, taste or see. intangible products are products the customer can't touch taste or see. We are here to talk about the latter group...the intangible products that are usually sold as a service.

Re: How to sell IT service

Thank you for such a good information but i think your prospect carries a high degree of risk and worry when buying. They really don't know what they'll get from you until after they spend their money and actually experience the service. During the sales process, all their buying is a promise that you'll do something for them.
