Any kind of business requires employees. Therefore, before hiring them, do ensure that you perform a background check, to be able to hire the right employee. In such a case, primarily identify their social security number, the status of their previous job and reasons for resignation, and any records of criminal activities. A background check is particularly necessary for employees applying to higher and sensitive positions, such as those related to finance and IT. If you want your business to be safe, it is essential that you remain personally involved in the business. You could also entrust two top-level employees for the same purpose, to monitor daily activities, and maintain records of all that has taken place during the day. Ensure that all employees are aware of company policies, and are taught how to react in situations involving theft and robbery. Keeping a backup of all data, and record of inventories outside office premises is essential. In case of theft, you will know exactly what is missing, thereby making the recovery process quicker.

Re: Business Security Tips

The tips are :

1. Ensure that all employees are aware of company policies, and are taught how to react in situations involving theft and robbery.
2. Install and maintain adequate locks on all doors, windows and storage areas. This includes laptops, desktop computers, PDA's, file cabinets, etc.
3. Ensure an uncluttered and unobstructed view into your business. Thieves/Burglars are attracted to businesses where they can't be seen from the street.
4. Have all employees secure their personal belongings in their desk, file cabinet, closet or lockable container.
5. Maintain good data hygiene. Protect passwords, change them often and DO NOT write them down and leave them unsecured.

Re: Business Security Tips

Great tips. Physical security measures are the very backbone of your business' security. Ensure you fit good quality five-lever mortise locks to your doors. Fit locks to your windows, especially those that are on the ground floor or are accessible, for example, from a flat roof. Remember that any outbuildings will also need a quality lock in order to protect their contents.

Have an emergency plan at home and your business. This should include what to do and who to notify in the case of any emergency such as fire, theft, robbery, hurricane, tornado, etc.

Re: Business Security Tips

Develop, implement and periodically revisit your company's security and safety plans. Have all employees sign an agreement that they will adhere to the policies and that they understand the consequences of violating those policies. Place a copy in their employment file. If you don't have any security/safety plans, write them, (examples can be fund on the internet), or have them written for your company by a security consultant.

Re: Business Security Tips

I just recently started my own small business after watching my boss make tons of money off of my idea. I've been trying to obtain business credit but I am having a problem, because I am a new business. I do not want to use myself as a personal guarantor due to some credit issues I have gained while in college, and co-signing for my ex. So if you have any tips please feel free to post them. Thanks for your time.
