Is it necessary to pay someone to create a website for you and host it? Or can that be done by yourself? I am planning to create a small online business and not sure where to start.
Thx
Re: Website creation for eStore
Try using Joomla.com with virtue mart extension. It is pretty easy to use once you get the hang of it. I would use godaddy.com to host you site. It is cheap and legit. Good luck.
Re: Website creation for eStore
You can do it by yourself. For starters, why not try Wordpress CMS, it is very easy to use and search-engine friendly. 🙂
Re: Website creation for eStore

Re: Website creation for eStore
If you are a business that wants to get taken seriously, hiring a designer may be the best way to go (but then again, I might just be saying that because i'm a designer).
On the other hand, you can always do well with a template that 100,000 other people have already seen. But that does depend on who you are, what you are selling, who you are selling, and how you are selling (your marketing approach).
Re: Website creation for eStore
You can start the website yourself but if you don't have a lot of experience developing websites it will most likely look sloppy and unprofessional. I think your best bet would be to hire a company to design your website for you. When I was starting my business I used this Tampa Web Design company to develop my website for my business in order to enhance my corporate image and provide another avenue to acquire customers . They offer free consultations, which is good because you can see what they will be able to do for you. Not every company offers this. Since then our sales have increased significantly, just from customers visiting our website. It is important to project a professional image for your customers and hiring someone to develop your website for you is the best way to go about doing that.

The two tasks can be separated. You can also look for a host that provides a site builder allowing you to build a site without knowledge of HTML
Re: Website creation for eStore
I would recommend looking at www.shoppingcartelite.com... A shopping cart software that you can integrate into your site.
Re: Website creation for eStore
I'd suggest that you sign up with a webhost so that you have total control and authority over your own website. Then, find and hire a good web designer to build the website for you. You can ask around the forum to get some suggestions on the best web designers for the money.
