We have been very successful over the last few years in getting business but we are always looking for our next job. How do you avoid having a down turn in your business so the pipeline is always filled and you get consistent cash flow?
Re: How do you avoid a downturn?
One of the things you can do is to diverify geographically. Many consultants focus only on their home markets - sometimes certain parts of the country may be in a recession where other parts are doing fine. You can also look internationally if you are well known in a specific area.

You can also extend vertically up the food chain for example if you only did consulting on evaluating proposals versus implementation. Alternative you can build products to expand your dominance in a particular industry.
