How can I assure customers that our site is secure?

(@Anonymous)

When a customer questions whether or not our site is secure, is there some certificate/statement that I could E-mail to assure them? Should I have a statement on our site? This happens about 2-3x per week and I used to think the padlock in the lower right-hand corner indicated a secure site--am I wrong?

What do other websites do when this issue arises? I always assure the customer that the site is secure--but they don't seem satisfied. Thanks in advance for any help in this regard.

I went to Siteworx to see if I could find something and I found a SSL certificate--is that it?

Hi
Any visitor/customer visiting your site is concerned abut the security you give him,its important for you to assure your clients about his security.I suggest you to have SSL ,verisign etc certification as a creditability factors in your site and apart from that you can create blogs and have a testimonials from your clients on them. This may help you.

I agree with the above commments, here are a few additional ideas:

-Make sure you put an address on your site
-Add logo from shopping cart security
-Add logo from merchant account verifying your authentication
-Sign up for independent verification ie. better business bureau

I hope this helps

SSL is a must I would find a cheaper vendor than verisign though

you can have a better testing approach, then always try to vary your security mechanisms so that it is not predictable, don't tell anyone about your security measures

This is also very interesting. I don’t see your site URL. This may be based on your URL sequence not clearly stating a site host or your own domain. I would need to see your URL to answer that one.
Maybe your site, IS NOT SECURE.

Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) = B-I-N-G-O
