Tips to start my own business of Nutraceuticals..

Health is big business. And herbal alternatives are here to stay. Just think. People in the East like China, Japan and India have been using herbs and botanical plants for 5,000 years and they are still popular! These have been introduced to our parts of the world fairly recently but in just 20 years have have become a credible alternative to conventional medicine. Even doctors recommend herbal nowadays. I've done some homework. We've got omega 3 fatty acids--doing very well among heart patients and those at risk. Green Tea works well too. All kinds of antioxidants. There are new nutrients from botanical sources that science is researching every day. With growing health concerns, and a rising aged popluation, and supporting research, the business of nutraceuticals seems like a no risk venture. I have been thinking of starting my own business in this field. Any comments, suggestions would be most appreciated.

Re: Tips to start my own business of Nutraceuticals..

While the nutraceutical business sounds like a promising venture there is much to be studied, evaluated and planned before you can start your own production line. The health industry is always big business and nutraceuticals are gaining popularity but health is precious, and only a good quality line of products backed by scientific research can persuade people to trust your products for their health and well-being. Remember the American public is not a sucker to any kind of product that promises health. Today's public is well aware of health issues and the internet has placed enough information at our fingertips for us to make a well-informed decision about the health products we choose. I think you need to think through the whole process before you actually invest any money in this venture. When you have carefully thought it through, I suggest you contact a good contract manufacturer to help you produce health products that are in keeping with GMPs and government guidelines. Take the advice of legal experts as well as financial analysts and advisors.I think a contract manufacturer is the best way for you to go since you know very little about this industry. Contract manufacturers can help you create a brand name, create label designs and assist you in other departments of this venture which right now might be overwhelming for you to handle. Let me know if you need any help with the names of some reputed contract manufacturers.

The healthcare industry is always on top. But you'd need to consider the competition as well. Many pharmaceutical companies are also now producing a few herbal health supplements. Competing with brand names may be difficult. I would go with what Ralf says. Work with a reputed contract manufacturer. Their research team coupled with their sales analysts will help you formulate the kind of product the public is looking for. All the same I think you should do some analysis and study of herbs on your own as well. They say the best way to succeed in business is to develop indomitable zeal for what you do!

Since you are new to this industry, it is best you go with a quality, GMP certified manufacturer. I would suggest Nutricap Labs. Besides manufacturing all kinds of dietary supplements, they also have a lot of services which will make manufacturing and marketing easier for you. A friend of mine has done business with them and is quite happy with their performance, delivery schedules, and just the way they do business. He was also new to the industry like you.

Re: Tips to start my own business of Nutraceuticals..

Thanks, Ralf. I've done some research on Nutricap Labs. It seems like a great company. I was impressed with their knowledge and experience in the nutraceutical business. They were able to make some innovative suggestions about products I could develop that would appeal to today's consumers. The current recession has driven more consumers to try out dietary supplements as a way to sustain health. So the timing is perfect. My biggest competitors will be the popular brands who have already established an identity. To compete well, Nutricaps Labs can help in the designing of my labels and in creating a brand image for my company. I feel pretty confident about them because of their years of experience and knowledge of trends, formulations, quality and sales of nutraceuticals. I would just like to hear from all of you who have been helping me out on this thread about whether or not to go with Nutricap Labs. Thanks.

Thanks for all your help, guys. I'm looking into Nutricap Labs - they seem to be just what I'm looking for. I like the fact that they are into high quality manufacturing and they have their own GMP-certified facilities. I've shortlisted two other companies and am looking into them as well.

I quite agreed with you that there is big money in an alternative medicine particularly if you know how to use the internet to pre-sell and build relationship marketing with your target audience. That's the way to succeed faster in this business.

Re: Tips to start my own business of Nutraceuticals..

I spoke to a rep at Nutricap Labs and I was quite impressed with the range of services they provide and also their emphasis on quality. They pretty much have everything under one roof - formulation, manufacturing, packaging and labeling. They also have an art team who can design labels, logos and help you with branding. They produce promotional leaflets, too. I was happy to hear that they can stock my products and handle order fulfillment and drop shipping at pretty nominal costs. According to their website - they seem to be growing pretty fast which is another good sign. I am thinking seriously of going with these guys, but first, want to know if any of you have worked with Nutricap Labs or have any information about them to share.

Re: Tips to start my own business of Nutraceuticals..

Two years ago I was ready to start my own line of health products. I had finished a lot of research, analysis and drawn a five-year plan. Nutricap Labs was my first choice for contract manufacturing. I had visited their manufacturing facility and it was great to see their operations first hand. Back then, I wanted to introduce a whole spectrum of quality health supplement specifically for baby boomers. That's still a pretty good market, I hear. Unfortunately, life took another turn for me and I have not been able to visit this project again. Perhaps next year.

Re: Tips to start my own business of Nutraceuticals..

Hi Brayden. I happened to come across this forum as I have been looking around for a new contract manufacturer. I've already got a range of nutritional supplements I produce and sell to retailers. I wanted to upgrade all my formulas - and also give my products a new look - labels play a big role these days. I have spoken to Nutricap Labs myself. I've also taken a look at their manufacturing units first-hand. They're really well set up. I found their pricing reasonable too. I am using their designers for creating a new brand image; and their lab team is very knowledgeable and we're working on improving a few formulas. They're great people to work with.

Re: Tips to start my own business of Nutraceuticals..

Thanks, Irvin. This was the kind of information I was looking for. I’ve been working with a sales representative at Nutricap Labs and I like the way things are moving. I am considering the use of their storage facilities and drop shipping services as well. The service is at a reasonable price and beats the cost of hiring storage space and personnel for customer service and dispatch.

Re: Tips to start my own business of Nutraceuticals..

Hey guys, I just wanted to thank all of you for your valuable feedback. After much research, I have signed a contract with Nutricap Labs. Recently, I visited their GMP-certified facilities. Their emphasis on quality nutritional supplement manufacturing at every stage put me at ease. I should have my first line of products ready for sale in 3 weeks. The job of marketing becomes easier knowing that I will receive quality products. Thanks again, guys.
