Re: need some idea on starting a Fitness Center

The next things you would want to do are obviously save up the money or get a loan to buy/rent yourself a building. Then you are going to have to buy all the exercise equipment to fill it up. These will be your two biggest costs in setting up your own fitness center.

Depending on how busy things get, you are going to need to hire some help. At first you should be fine doing it on your own, though.

Finally, you are going to want to advertise, advertise, advertise. Get as many people to know about your gym as possible. Let them know why they should come to you instead of the YMCA or other places that offer the same services, etc. You need to brand yourself with something unique or special that you offer to give people an incentive. Whether you offer lower monthly fees than other places in your area, free personal fitness help and advice, or whatever it takes to make people think you are better than your competition.

Re: need some idea on starting a Fitness Center

My first post was not to be taken as just a one liner. For a fitness center IMO location is everything. A good location will cut down on your marketing costs, as obviosly people will see it.

I think maybe close to a middle or upper class neighborhood, but in a place like a strip mall, or the like. May be pricey, but you are garunteed clients from the start I believe, especially if you do not have any competition near bye.

Other than that, local paper advertising (fairly cheap) have your opening day (if you have the capitol to advertise on the radio) perhaps news paper would work with a big enough ad, but perhaps a competition; who can lift the most, separate it in 3 weight classes, spend less than 100 bucks on trophys, that would get folks attention and get those ego-maninacs there and the people who like watching them, have shirts, hats , ect..... ready as door prizes it it goes to plan you have a successfull start.

Other than going with some sort of marketing campaign I could see it as a word to mouth thing where clients come in slowly.

What sort of budget do you have in mind for marketing?

Re: need some idea on starting a Fitness Center

Hello Friends........

To start a Fitness Center you need

1.Equipment and Products

2.Licenses and Registrations

3.Personnel

You would also need qualified personnel to help you run your business, like trainers and nutritionists
. These people should be able to present the necessary credentials and certification, as well as the experience, before you hire them. You’d also need a good receptionist to talk to existing and potential clients when they enter your facilities.

Thanks

You don't have to be a fitness giant to start your own gym--just focus on a narrow niche to bring your business idea to life.

Re: need some idea on starting a Fitness Center

Business plans are generally prepared for a three-to-five year period. The scope will define the start-up, expansion, or acquisition costs. Specific markets, products, marketing plans and organization for the company will be outlined. An implementation process will be outlined with dates and assigned responsibilities (milestones). Sales projections are absolutely necessary, and will be the basis for the financial forecast which will include balance sheet and cash flow forecasts as well as the profit and loss forecast.

But first make it clear, whether its a business or a fitness training center?
By keeping Fitness in mind you can grow it to big profit, but assuming it as business will be more challenging :/

Re: need some idea on starting a Fitness Center

Fitness centers are challenging business models because the attrition rate is so high. Most people who sign up for a membership in a gym will quit going to that gym within the first 2 to 8 weeks. The best advice I can offer you to help make it successful is to find new and innovative methods for making people want to keep coming back. You should consider a variety of different methods including postcards, letters, telephone calls, and emails to stay in touch with people and keep your business in the front of their minds. It can also be helpful if you find ways to keep them motivated about losing weight, working out, and improving their overall health.

You can start you gym slow then as more and more people begin to discover your premise, you can incorporate other streams to make money such as having aerobics training, martial arts and other specialized arts that might blend well with this business model. There's never a shortage of the things you could do.
